Mini Mystery is great for 6–8 players who want a focused 60-minute game. Signature Dinner Mystery is our most popular option for 8–12 players with a full 90-minute experience. Premium Immersive Mystery is for 10–14 players who want the full theatrical production — multiple killers, cover art, name tags, and a revision included. When in doubt, go Signature.

Yes, before production begins. Contact us via Etsy message with your order number and we'll arrange the difference. Once we've started writing your game, upgrades aren't possible.

Rush delivery (1–2 business days) may be available depending on our current workload. Contact us via Etsy before purchasing to confirm availability. Rush orders may carry an additional fee.

About 20–30 minutes for a thorough submission. You can save your progress and return to it anytime. The form has four sections: your order details, game preferences, guest information, and output preferences.

Fill in what you know and save your progress. You can return and complete the form before submitting. We recommend submitting at least 7–10 days before your party date to allow time for production and printing.

That's fine — just tell us about your group's vibe and we'll suggest something. The intake form has a "surprise me" option for theme and setting. We're good at reading between the lines of "we like wine and true crime podcasts."

Yes. Many customers fill out the form as the host on behalf of the whole group. Just make sure you have permission to include details about your guests — especially anything personal or potentially sensitive.

You'll receive a confirmation email. Your order status will update to "In Production" in your customer portal. We'll write your game, review it, and deliver your files within the standard 3–5 business day window.

Very. Every character is written around the real person playing them — their personality, their inside jokes, their relationship dynamics, their comfort level. The storyline is built around your setting, theme, and group. No two games are the same. We don't use templates or fill-in-the-blank scripts.

Not at all. Characters are written to feel like exaggerated versions of real people, so "acting" mostly means being yourself with a slightly more suspicious backstory. The game works even if everyone stays firmly in their own personality. We've seen it happen.

You choose on the intake form. Options include: assigned (we pick based on personality fit), randomly revealed (players draw from envelopes on game night), or host-assigned (you decide who gets the secret card). You can also specify whether the murderer knows they're guilty from the start or discovers it during the game.

Yes — the Premium tier supports multiple killers and accomplices. Each guilty party has partial knowledge only, so even the killers don't know the full picture. This creates genuinely layered deception and makes the final reveal more satisfying.

Yes. We review every game to confirm the clues fairly support the solution, red herrings are funny but not unfair, and a careful player can solve it. The mystery is designed to be challenging but not impossible — and the reveal is always satisfying even if nobody guesses correctly.

If you know before we start writing, update your intake form. If you find out after delivery, the host guide includes notes on how to handle absent players — usually by folding their character into the background or having the host play them briefly.

No. This is a digital printable product. You receive files you print yourself. Nothing ships. No tracking number. No waiting for a package. Just a download link in your email and customer portal.

Mini Mystery includes PDF files only. Signature and Premium tiers include both PDF and editable DOCX files. Premium also includes print-shop-ready layout files. All files arrive in a single organized ZIP package.

You'll receive an email with a download link when your game is ready. You can also log into your customer portal at plottwistparties.com/portal using your Etsy order number to check status and download your files at any time.

Download links are active for 90 days after delivery. If you need to re-download after that, contact us with your order number and we'll restore access.

Yes. All files are formatted for standard US Letter (8.5 x 11) paper. Regular printer paper works fine for most files. We recommend cardstock for clue cards and character booklets if you want a more premium feel.

Absolutely. The PDF files are print-ready. Premium tier includes print-shop-optimized layout files. Services like FedEx Office, Staples, or local print shops work well. Character booklets can be printed as saddle-stitched booklets for a polished look.

It varies by tier and player count. A typical Signature game for 10 players is approximately 60–80 pages total across all files. Character booklets are 4–6 pages each. The host guide is 10–15 pages. Clue cards are designed to print 4–6 per page and be cut out.

Files are designed to look great in both. Color printing adds atmosphere. Black and white is perfectly functional and cheaper. The cover art (Premium tier) is designed for color printing.

Yes. The intake form lets you set a comfort level for each player individually — none, mild, medium, or high. We write to the lowest comfort level in the room unless you specify otherwise. Adult content is available but never includes hate speech, real criminal accusations, defamation, or non-consensual material.

Use the "off-limits topics" and "boundaries" fields in the intake form for each player. We take these seriously. If a player has marked something off-limits, it won't appear in their character or in any clue that directly involves them.

It will gently roast them in the way that good friends do — based on the inside jokes and personality traits you provide. The goal is playful, not cruel. Characters are exaggerated versions of real people, not attacks on them. If you're worried about a specific guest, use the boundaries field.

Yes — that's exactly what makes the game feel personal. Real locations, shared hobbies, group jokes, recurring teasing points, things everyone loves and complains about — all of this goes in the "flavor" section of the intake form and gets woven into the game.

Yes — we use AI-assisted creative production to generate your custom game, which is then reviewed by a human for quality, consistency, tone, and safety before delivery. This is disclosed in our terms. It's how we can offer fully custom games at this price point and turnaround time.

Custom digital products are non-refundable once production begins. If you haven't submitted your intake form yet, contact us and we may be able to cancel. Once we've started writing your game, we cannot offer refunds — but we can offer revisions. See our full refund policy.

Signature and Premium tiers include one revision. If something isn't right — a character detail is off, a clue doesn't make sense, the tone isn't what you expected — submit a revision request through your customer portal and we'll fix it. Mini Mystery doesn't include a revision, but we'll address genuine errors at no charge.

A revision is a targeted fix — adjusting a character, correcting a clue, changing the tone of a section. A complete rewrite with a different theme, setting, or guest list is a new order. If you're unsure, describe what you want changed and we'll let you know which category it falls into.

Mini Mystery is designed for 60 minutes. Signature runs about 90 minutes. Premium runs 90–120 minutes. In practice, add 15–30 minutes for groups who get very into it, lose track of time, or need to refill their drinks repeatedly. Plan accordingly.

The host can play a character or serve as the game master — it's your choice. If you want to play, we'll write you a character. If you'd rather manage the evening, we'll write you as the host/narrator. Specify this on the intake form.

That's fine — and honestly pretty common. The final reveal script is written to be satisfying regardless of whether anyone solved it. The murderer gets a dramatic confession moment, the clues get explained, and everyone gets to feel clever about the things they did notice.

Please don't. The host guide contains the solution, the clue release schedule, and the timing for each phase. Reading it beforehand is the difference between a smooth evening and a host frantically flipping through papers while guests stare at them. It takes about 20 minutes to read. Do it.

Technically yes, but it won't work as well — the game is built around specific people. The characters reference real personalities, inside jokes, and relationships that won't mean anything to a different group. For a new group, order a new game. That's what we're here for.
